Alexandra’s first cruise up the Hudson River at 9 months old

In October 2012, my husband and I struck out on a journey that we hope will become a life-long adventure. We moved our family onto a 34-foot Catalina sailing vessel and lived onboard on the Hudson River in New York Harbor. For over 3 years our family of 2 adults and 1 toddler (and our dog Lady) woke up each morning to a sunrise over the New York skyline and went to bed each night to the gentle rocking of the water in the Morris Canal.

George’s first weekend sailing trip at 2 months old

In December 2015, we began sharing our time between an apartment and the marina, in preparation for a new addition to the family. Our second child was born on February 29, 2016. We enjoyed taking our Leap Year baby and our daughter on many new adventures on and off the sailboat every weekend.

Leaving Morris Canal for the last time, moving to CT

In 2017 we moved our lives (and the sailboat) to Connecticut. We bought a house and started new jobs! We also bought a 17-foot Skiff for fishing on the local river and the Long Island Sound. Our kids have settled in to our new life in New England, enjoying having their own backyard world to explore. In 2018 we joined a yacht club and renamed s/v Princess “Polaris”. Since then, we have also purchased a Jayco travel trailer for camping!

This blog began as a way to document our experiences adjusting to boat life, traveling, and raising a child aboard a sailboat. Since then, our family’s experiences have gone through many changes, but we continue the blog as a way to document all of our adventures through this journey we call life, on and off the water.
